The 2012 Mayors Prayer Breakfast, a community-building event, encourages unity, diversity and developing leadership skills for Las Vegas youth, and will take place at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 at Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel. The event includes Mayor’s reading ecumenical prayers, an interfaith candle lighting ceremony and a keynote speech by Dwight D. Jones, Superintendent of Schools, Clark County School District.

Following the breakfast, students in attendance will have the opportunity to ask questions of local mayors, Clark County School District Superintendent Dwight D. The annual Mayors Prayer Breakfast is modeled after the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C. The local event encourages our community to use their diversity to find creative solutions to the various challenges facing Southern Nevada, similar to how the national breakfast is focused on the unification of our country.

The Mayors Prayer Breakfast was founded more than 50 years ago when Las Vegas Mayor Oran Gragson attended a President’s Prayer Breakfast hosted by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The Mayor was so moved by the experience that he brought the event to Las Vegas.
