In addition to giving away more than 12,000 free smoothies to area customers, for the fifth year Tropical Smoothie Café is raising money for Camp Sunshine—a summer camp designed specifically for children with life-threatening illness and their families to provide a week of rest, relaxation, plus medical counseling and much-needed emotional support.
Beginning May 28, Tropical Smoothie Café customers can contribute to the Camp Sunshine fundraising in several ways:
– Purchase $1 paper flip-flops, which are posted throughout each store.
– Donate $5 or more in-store will receive a Flip Flop Key Fob good for 10 percent off all purchases in 2012.
– Text “CAMP” to 20222 to donate $10 automatically, with charges appearing on their mobile phone bill.
– Purchase a Sunrise Sunset smoothie – a portion of proceeds from the sale of each Sunrise Sunset smoothie will be donated to Camp Sunshine.
“National Flip Flop Day is such an exciting time of year for us! Not only do we get to reward our loyal customers with a free Jetty Punch smoothie, but we also give back through our fundraising efforts,” said Dina Mitchell Area Developer and Marketing Director for Nevada. “Our goal this year is to raise enough money through all of our local stores to send 19 families to Camp Sunshine – which is nearly $40,000. Our customers always step up and I know this year will be no exception.”
Camp Sunshine, a retreat in Casco, Maine for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families, is a nonprofit that hosts families year-round to alleviate the stress and strain for the sick child and their family members. Families attend Camp Sunshine for completely paid, weeklong programs. The cost for one family to participate in the weeklong program is $2,000, plus travel expenses.
