BALTIMORE (November 2013) – The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) recognized The Venetian® and The Palazzo® Las Vegas with a Grand Award and a Green Star Award in the Society’s 2013 Green Star Awards competition. Both awards were given in the Hotel category for exceptional grounds maintenance. Winners were honored during the Society’s 2013 Awards Dinner held Oct. 25 in conjunction with the School of Grounds Management & GIE+EXPO in Louisville, Ky., Oct. 23-26.
VENETIAN: As guest and visitors enter The Venetian Las Vegas, they are welcomed with both architectural and landscape elements that convey an Italian feel. The property uses an array of plant material in tree, shrub and seasonal color accents to enhance the theme. Although high temperatures nearing 110 degrees are average during the summer, the Venetian horticulture staff is able to create a landscape full of color, texture, and interest with a limited palette of plants that will survive the extreme in temperature. Water features and use of exterior space during the cooler evening hours also help in making the landscape comfortable in hot weather. Hedges are shaped up to five times a year to maintain a formal design with integrated annual color provided year round.
PALAZZO: The Palazzo Las Vegas has 284,864 sq.ft. of detailed lush landscape befitting its status as the most luxurious European-inspired place to stay in Las Vegas. Palazzo has a total of seven separate pools; plant material is used to separate each pool for a sense of privacy and privilege. A combination of textures and colors are used to create depth and interest.
The Green Star Awards program brings national recognition to grounds maintained with a high degree of excellence, complimenting other national landscape award programs that recognize outstanding landscape design and construction. Overall, PGMS presented four Grand Awards, its highest honor, as well as twenty-two Honor Awards and seven Merit Awards in eleven categories of competition.
