Dr. Edward ZimmermanEveryone has their own definition of beauty and health. Dr. Edward Zimmerman of Las Vegas Laser and Lipo makes it clear that it all begins with building a culture of taking care of people as well as staying current with the newest methods and equipment. Las Vegas Laser and Lipo stays on the cutting edge and is again introducing new techniques and technologies.

An innovative procedure that tightens and plumps up the external and internal vaginal tissue without surgery, ThermiVa uses a slender, curved probe to deliver comfortable monopolar radio frequency energy. Feeling like a warm massage, ThermiVa not only tightens and rejuvenates the internal vagina without surgery but can also shrink redundant outer tissue for less revealing swimsuit wear and more comfortable intimate moments. It also strengthens the ligaments surrounding the bladder and urethra, which can help female stress incontinence that can happen when a woman coughs, sneezes or bends over. A similar device by Alma Lasers called the FemiLift, which uses a fractional carbon dioxide laser, has also been used by Dr. Z (as he is known) with great success.

“We have helped many women, and it has been great for our practice,” Dr. Z said. “It is easy, painless, non-surgical and also helps with increased lubrication, heightened vaginal sensations and improved orgasms. It can be performed at the same time as labiaplasty (surgical reduction of extra tissue under local anesthetic) when needed.”

Another new innovation is using platelet-rich plasma (PRP), not only for sports injuries but also with cosmetic procedures. PRP is isolated from a small sample of the patient’s own blood, collected prior to the procedure. The blood sample is spun in a special centrifuge, isolating the yellow plasma, which contains the healing factors that help the tissue rejuvenate and grow new blood vessels in the area. PRP is used for the Vampire Facial, Vampire Facelift and Vampire Breast Lift. Dr. Z is certified by the developer of these procedures. PRP is also being used by Dr. Z with fillers, facelifts and laser resurfacing.

PRP strategically and painlessly injected in the vaginal region is known as the O Shot. It is designed to help with increased sensation and intimacy. “It also helps with stress incontinence, so it is a win-win-win,” Dr. Z. said. “There is no down time, you can go home and start testing out the results immediately.”

Men (and couples) are also enjoying the benefits of the new technologies and techniques. The Man Shot is when Zimmerman painlessly injects PRP into the penis to improve erections. Dr. Z explained, “Girth can also be improved with various fillers (off-label, but very successful). The entire procedure takes minutes, and there is no down time.

Micro-needling utilizes a recently registered FDA device that oscillates back and forth, comfortably moving a disposable tip with 9 to 12 sterile needles into the epidermis and dermis. This causes micro punctures and stimulates healing and rejuvenation. It is used to smooth and blend texture and color of faces, necks, backs of hands and décolletage. Las Vegas Laser and Lipo is even starting to micro-needle men’s scalps with PRP and other growth factors. While there are no guarantees about regrowth of hair, the early results are promising.

Another new technology at LVLL is the MLS low-level laser. It is part of an a la carte menu of services offered to patients who are going into surgery or who have had a recent musculoskeletal injury. There is no pain or down time with this multi-visit, 15- to 20-minute, dual wavelength laser treatment. Interestingly, this technology was initially used to benefit multimillion-dollar thoroughbred racehorses. Without the use of pain medication and its possible side effects, these procedures are taking down pain and swelling with no repercussions.

“We have been using this laser to shorten healing time and discomfort after cosmetic surgeries. We have also successfully helped patients with knee, lower back, shoulder and elbow issues,” Dr. Z said. “I’ve used this procedure on my own arthritic fingers to relieve stiffness and achiness from years of liposculpting. This MLS laser is exciting and effective.”

One of the most cutting-edge procedures at Las Vegas Laser and Lipo has been studied and implemented for two years. It uses another FDA registered device as part of the practice of medicine. It appears that fat not only stores up calories, toxins and hormones but also is the home of rejuvenative cells that help heal the body. They are abundant in fat tissue (more than in bone marrow or blood). Adipose-derived regenerative cells (ADRCs), cytokines, growth factors and platelets that are isolated from a patient, are injected into joints, utilized with laser treatments or dripped back into that patient during that same session. They have helped patients with fibromyalgia, bowel issues, tennis elbow, ankle and rotator cuff issues. Treatments are often combined at LVLL with PRP and a referral to a personal trainer or physical therapy.

“This is a wonderful time to be in medicine because we can really start to help patients use their own bodies as manufacturing plants for healing. We can isolate, concentrate and inject healing cells and tissue factors where they will do the most good. It is helping people help themselves,” Dr. Z said.

All of these procedures are done in the state-licensed, nationally accredited Las Vegas Laser and Lipo office and surgical facility under local or light conscious sedation. General anesthesia is not required, and while there is recovery time, it is generally not as lengthy as in previous years. Procedures are also becoming less invasive.

Dr. Z teaches nationally and internationally with passion and vigor. He is an examiner for the American Board of Laser Surgery, a member of the Board of Trustees for the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and a clinical faculty member of Touro University School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Along with a caring staff, Dr. Z is excited about the future of medicine, offering it with dedication and safety at Las Vegas Laser and Lipo.
