AAfter spending years in the gaming and hospitality industry as an executive for over 20 years, Las Vegas native Kim Miramontes has changed careers. She is now the owner and general manager of College Nannies and Tutors. The franchise offers full-service child care and customized tutoring solutions for college-bound students.
Miramontes knew she wanted to transition into a new phase of her life. “In the last year, I have been looking for a business that would serve the residents of Las Vegas.” With a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and an M.B.A. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Miramontes was confident she could operate the business successfully as well as provide quality services in her new field.
As a stepmother to two teenagers, Miramontes wanted to invest in College Nannies and Tutors. “What really appealed to me about the business were the families I had worked with in the past. So many families today have both parents working, and I could see how hard it was to keep balance and have everyone in the family thrive. With our business, whether they need four or 40 hours a week, we can help families. This business really resonated with me.”
As for tutoring, Miramontes wanted to provide role models for students to learn from using a one-on-one approach to allow the students to achieve their highest potential. “We place someone who is strong academically and a leader in their own life. This creates a high level of engagement for our students.” Some areas of expertise include college test preparation, essay writing, homework help, study skills, math tutoring and science tutoring.
With our business, whether they need four or 40 hours a week, we can help families.
The franchise was started by business school student and college entrepreneur Joseph Keeley when he took a job as a nanny caring for children. During his time as a “manny,” Keeley realized that he was active role model. College Nannies and Tutors was incorporated in 2001, and the organization has expanded to over 25 states, with Miramontes owing the only franchise in Southern Nevada.
As a native Las Vegan, Miramontes believes Southern Nevada really needs the services her company offers both on the child care side and tutoring side. While Miramontes does not tutor herself, she is a certified professional leadership coach with training from the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching. Her desire for her business is “to provide the role models, whether nannies or tutors, so all members of the family can reach their full potential and create the lives they want.”
