Only 90 miles south of Las Vegas, Laughlin is a totally unique experience combining entertainment and recreation with a throwback to the 1960s as a friendly, small tourist town.
Located on the Colorado River, all of the resorts (except one) open up to Laughlin’s River Walk. One can actually stroll alongside the river from the Riverside Resort to the River Palms to explore what each resort has to offer while enjoying the mild winter temperatures. Facing the river’s edge, visitors can witness the many fish and waterfowl that flock to its shores. Along the way there are bars and restaurants, and all feature incredible views in near perfect weather.
In the resorts, one can indulge in fine or casual dining, relax with a spa treatment or catch a movie. Knock down some pins at Riverside Lanes, a 34-lane state-of-the-art bowling center with evening glow-in-the-dark Cosmic Bowling.
As for entertainment, big names play in several venues, and bands and singers entertain in lounges for a more intimate feel. Terri Clark, Mel Tillis and Crystal Gayle will be performing at the Riverside Resort while Big & Rich will be appearing at the Edgewater E Center. Toby Keith will perform and SNORE (Southern Nevada Off Road Enthusiasts) “Rage at the River” will be held in the Laughlin Event Center. For an early Christmas, the Aquarius will be featuring its 6th Annual Christmas Gala, “Voices on the River.” At the Riverside Resort, “The Nutcracker Ballet” will be performed by the Anaheim Ballet. For the sports fans, there are sports bars, and for those who want to party, there are several nightclubs to dance the night away.
To relax, take a leisurely scenic ride or enjoy a dinner cruise aboard paddlewheel steamship replicas and tour boats while listening to the narrated history of Laughlin and the surrounding area. Laughlin River Tours offers the only dinner cruise on the Colorado River with enclosed and open seating. River Passage Water Taxis are comfortable pontoon boat cruises from casino to casino along the Colorado River. The USS Riverside offers daily narrated excursions which detail the many features of the region. Designed to travel under the Laughlin/Bullhead City Bridge to Davis Dam, and with a shaded upper deck and climate-controlled lower deck, this is a comfortable and scenic way to enjoy the resort community.
The December weather in Laughlin and Bullhead City, Arizona, is perfect for the Laughlin Half Marathon and 5K (runlaughlin.com). Experience this early morning race in the crisp air with visibility for miles. The Mojave Desert is one of the most picturesque, peaceful and tranquil places to run with the course beginning and ending in front of the Laughlin Outlet Center.
Winter in Southern Nevada is also one of the best times to golf, and there are several courses to practice that swing. Laughlin Ranch Golf Club, over the bridge in Bullhead City, features dramatic elevation changes, water hazards and waterfalls, bridges, numerous bunkers, wide fairways, generous greens and GPS systems on all golf carts. The clubhouse at the Laughlin Ranch Golf Club features private meeting rooms, a restaurant and bar, pro shop, gym, pool and full-service day spa.
