LAS VEGAS – Lutheran Social Services of Nevada (LSSN) kicks off their annual wine tasting event on May 21, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Cili’s restaurant at Bali Hai located at 5160 S. Las Vegas Blvd. The fundraiser is open to the public and includes signature appetizers, a silent live auction, and a range of domestic and international wines to sample. General tickets are $65. Corporate sponsorship opportunities are available for $1,500. LSSN has been hosting the annual wine tasting event for the past five years, with hopes of raising $20,000 this year. Monies raised go towards LSSN programs such as the Empowerment Center, Open Air Market, Food Pantry, Community Garden, Homeless Prevention Services, and the Employment Tools Program.
“We are excited to host this fabulous event and hope to exceed our fundraising goals to continually support and grow our community programs,” said Armena Mnatsakanyan, executive director of Lutheran Social Services of Southern Nevada.
Annual fundraising events help the organization continue to serve over 15,000 individuals and families in need annually, and to successfully break the continuous cycle of poverty, homelessness and hunger in our community. LSSN opened its doors in 1985 as a small clothing closet run by a small group of volunteers, and has grown to a nationally recognized organization that serves over 180,000 local families in need in Southern Nevada with a variety of programs.
LSSN has a variety of programs that provide financial assistance to low-income households to achieve such goals as obtaining employment, retaining housing, food, and avoiding homelessness. The nonprofit organization provides basic and emergency services to low-income and homeless populations; distributes approximately 20,000 meals per month at its food pantry; and hosts quarterly Open Air markets that serve up to 300 households with fresh produce and healthy options to low-income community residents. The Community Garden project assists low-income families by helping them develop and grow their own gardens. The LSSN Empowerment Center provides employment readiness and job training skills.
