As Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of H&H Retirement Design and Management Inc., Julie Himmler strives to educate women about finances and help them achieve their life goals.

The women in the company’s clientele’s age group tend to let the men handle the finances, yet women generally outlive men. According to Himmler, the staff and management of H&H pride themselves on teaching clients how to handle their money.

“What we find is that many people initially come to our office with the belief that our company is just like everyone else in the financial industry, meaning they think we are financial advisers, or brokers,” Himmler explained. “Many people in our industry call themselves financial advisers, however, many do not possess the conviction to always act in the best interest of the client.”

At H&H, the client always comes first. As part of its fiduciary responsibility, any advice or action taken by H&H can be proven to be in the best interest of the client. While financial brokers without this responsibility tend to act in the best interest of their company with financial products to sell, “We don’t work that way,” Himmler emphasized. “We work with clients who are retirees or those nearing retirement and teach them how to distribute their money in the most tax-efficient way possible.”

While the majority of financial advisers are teaching people how to build their wealth, especially in the stock market, H&H focuses on the different needs of retirees who require a different financial strategy. Due to the volatility of the market, typically it is not the best place for clients who need income. This volatility can lead to a lot of restless nights as the market dips and fluctuates. H&H’s strategy is to set up an income stream and then any excess can go into the market. They understand their clients’ financial needs and work with them to create a program specific to their life and life goals.

H&H does not rely on popular opinion; it uses software called eMoney. “We do everything by mathematics. Everything is calculated,” Himmler said. “We look at the entire picture, something many other financial advisers don’t do. We are focusing on making certain our clients reach their goals, which are very personal and individualized.” By using eMoney, H&H can show clients different scenarios depending on the financial path taken or changes made. “We allow our clients to dream again.”

In 2006, Himmler co-authored the book “Live Rich & Stay Wealthy.” The book is being updated for 2016 and is specifically written for women who are ready to take charge of their finances. Readers will learn how to develop a financial plan that will serve as a guide for the rest of their life. They will also learn how to set purposeful goals and manage them to realize a better quality of life. Readers will be educated on how to prepare, manage and measure how well their financial professionals are doing for them. The book will also unlock some of the secrets to IRAs, 401(k)s, trusts, stocks, bonds and mutual funds. Ultimately, readers will learn the investment planning process so they are better equipped to organize and optimize their financial future.
