Sabor de Baja showcases best in culinary in Baja

Rosarito Beach Hotel & Resort, featuring entertainment, activities and world-class dining, located in Rosarito Beach in Baja California.
The fourth annual Sabor de Baja, an all-white-attire affair, was recently held in the gardens of the Rosarito Beach Hotel & Resort. Hundreds of people attended the event, at which 20 of Baja’s best chefs prepared delectable dishes paired with Baja wines and artisanal beer producers.
Chef Bo Bendana of Mi Casa Supper Club in Rosarito Beach organized the event. Sabor de Baja was created to promote gastronomy, diversity and tourism within Baja and Rosarito. Entertainers included Maryam Malak, first place winner of “The Voice–Baja,” saxophonist J. Boykin, affectionately known as the Sax Sensation and Ecos de La Habana, a Cuban band from Playas de Tijuana.
The People’s Choice was decided by votes submitted by the attendees, and the coveted, Best of Sabor was selected by a panel of distinguished judges, including Ericka Santana, sommelier; Claudia Sandoval, winner of Master Chef television series; Jorge Meraz, host of the series “Crossing South;” Pablo Barragán, five time Emmy Award-winning journalist and Maribel Moreno, promoter of enological and culinary tourism of border region.
First place winner was Chef Armas Gomez of Mantou GastroPub paired with Vinedos Corona Del Valle. Second place winner was Chef Mario Peralta of Fuego Cocina del Valle paired with Montano Benson Vinicultures and third place winner was Chef Surinder Veer Singh Ortega of Sanvil paired with Compass Ales Brewery. The People’s Choice was Chabert’s Restaurant at the Rosarito Beach Hotel paired with Claudius Vinos y Bodega. The date for the next Sabor de Baja will be Aug. 30, 2017. For those looking to enjoy winter at Baja’s largest and best-known beachfront resort, spa packages are being offered through Dec. 21.

For standard rooms in the Coronado tower, Spa & Stay packages are $139 per night from Sunday through Thursday and $259 for the Friday and Saturday night package. One-bedroom suites in the Pacifico Tower are $179 Sunday through Thursday and $339 for Friday and Saturday nights.
Rosarito’s downtown tourist district with restaurants, shopping, art galleries and a lively nightlife district is a leisurely stroll from the full-service resort. Major Baja attractions including the Guadalupe Wine Valley and Puerto Nuevo Lobster Village are a short scenic drive away.
