Niki Scalera and Maren Wade own the stage with their vocals, looks and talent in “The Cocktail Cabaret,” a new live musical revue. As the entertainment capital of the world, this is the way to begin the evening in an intimate venue before going to dinner, attending the theater or show, celebrating a special event or enjoying a fun night on the town.
“The Cocktail Cabaret” will be performed at the iconic Cleopatra’s Barge at Caesars Palace. Las Vegas tourists and locals will be immersed in a new Vintage Vegas revue featuring modern standards and original music. But the show is not just a tribute to Las Vegas shows of the past but a contemporary, upbeat performance that embraces the heart and soul of the entertainment capital. Cleopatra’s Barge offers an intimate 140-seat venue with cocktail service in an elegant atmosphere.
Scalera is a Broadway and Las Vegas Strip veteran including performing in “Hairspray,” “Tarzan” and “Footloose” on Broadway. She was an original cast member of “We Will Rock You,” the Queen musical at Paris Las Vegas, lead singer in “Peepshow” and a soloist with the Las Vegas Philharmonic. Inspired by the incredible vocals and stage presence of Dame Shirley Bassey, Scalera worked with long time friend and colleague Keith Thompson (co-producer of “The Cocktail Cabaret”) to create “Bassey & Me.” This one-woman theatrical cabaret featured the music of Dame Shirley and an eight piece band conducted by Thompson.
As for “The Cocktail Cabaret,” she stated that, “It is incredibly diverse. Not just in its performers, but in the song selection. There is something for everyone from popular top 40 hits to original tunes to musical theatre even a touch classical, the show appeals to a wide age range.”
She loves performing at Cleopatra’s Barge as well. “It’s so exciting to know that so many greats have performed in this room over the years! And to be among that caliber of company is thrilling.”
Wade appeared on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” and performed in “Pin Up” and “50 Shades! The Parody” on the Las Vegas Strip. She is also a television host and columnist. Wade has toured nationally with football legend Terry Bradshaw in “America’s Favorite Dumb Blonde” and has also sang back up for Vegas icon Wayne Newton. She combines sex appeal with bluesy melodies belting out powerful vocals.
Eric Jordan Young (“Rock of Ages,” “Vegas! The Show,” “Ragtime,” “CHICAGO,” “Seussical the Musical,” “Look of Love” and “Dreamgirls”) adds humor and tremendous talent to the festivities. Multilingual classical/pop crossover vocalist Daniel Emmet, a rising star who has commanded stages from The Staples Center in Los Angeles to the Palais Todesco in Vienna, brings his enormous talent to the group.
The singers are joined on stage by a four-piece band led by renowned pianist Philip Fortenberry, whose career has taken him to concert stages from Lincoln Center to Carnegie Hall, from The Kennedy Center to The White House, and touring the country performing his own solo shows, “The Man At The Piano” and “The Hands of Liberace.” The band on stage with Fortenberry includes drummer Don Meoli (“Jersey Boys”), bassist Josh Jones (“Million Dollar Quartet”) and saxophonist Eric Tewalt (Celine Dion, “Jersey Boys”).
Produced by PK Entertainment, co-producer Thompson’s musical background includes co-founding and hosting “The Composers Showcase of Las Vegas,” now running for 11 years including five years at The Smith Center’s intimate Myron’s Cabaret Jazz showroom. Thompson has also written three original songs for the revue.
The revue is not just about performing covers but creating unique interpretations such as the bluesy version of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” or the combination of singing in Spanish and English of “All By Myself.”
Weekly performances are scheduled for Wednesday through Saturday at 5 p.m., dark Sunday through Tuesday. The show will also be dark Dec. 21 and during CES Jan. 10-13, 2019. Tickets are priced at $55 per person general admission plus tax and applicable fees.
