The dining experience is more than a menu; it is a combination of food, drink, atmosphere, price and location. Restaurateurs including Tami Blinn of CRAFTkitchen and Stevee Topchi of Salud Mexican Bistro and Tequileria are two of a growing number of women who are revolutionizing the industry.

Chef Tami BlinnTami of CRAFTkitchen is a chef, but leaves the kitchen to her chef and husband, Jaret, while she manages the business. She has always loved cooking and even observed her grandfather in his butcher shop. After college and culinary school, Tami pursued her culinary career and worked for the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco. It was during this period she met her future husband. When there was an opportunity in Las Vegas for the two oft them, they decided to move and make Southern Nevada their home. Then they decided to take a leap of faith.

“It was always a dream of ours to open a restaurant to be able to do something more adventurous,” she explained. They specifically selected a location surrounded by neighborhoods. “We have regulars that come twice a week and they are not only our guests but also our neighbors.”

pancakesAlong with the new American favorites with a twist, baked goodies made from scratch can also be purchased from the bakery case. Food is locally sourced whenever possible as well as organic and gluten-free choices. The menu changes constantly with beer and wine available to order.

CRAFTkitchen is open daily for breakfast and lunch only. These hours were selected for family time. Chef Jaret can coach his son in various sports and Tami can spend time with her daughter with school activities.

Born and raised in Henderson, Stevee, along with her husband Andres, owns Salud Mexican Bistro and Tequileria. The menu is classical Mexican cuisine with a modern twist such as duck carnitas and pork belly chicharron. For adventurous diners, different tastes are incorporated such as lobster enchiladas and octopus salteado. There is a full bar featuring tequila cocktails and flights.

Stevee first obtained her cosmetology license because she loves to make women feel beautiful. She now owns a mobile hair and makeup service for brides as well as continues to work as a stylist.

But as her businesses and career thrived, Stevee wanted to try something new. Her in-laws had worked in the restaurant industry for their entire lives and when approached to open a new restaurant, she decided to add this venture to her growing roster of businesses.

“There are many challenges in opening a restaurant. But I loved it when we were creating the menu,” she said. “We would have friends and family come and taste the food, get their opinions and that was so much fun. I have a special relationship with our chef, who is an artist with food as well as with sculpturing and painting.”

Stevee strives to ensure everything looks and tastes perfect and is working on adding locations. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays, 4 to 10 p.m. Saturdays and 4 to 9 p.m. Sundays.
