Five Fashion Statements for Success
By Janice Marie Wilson, MA
First Impressions Are Lasting
It takes seven seconds to make a first impression and a lifetime to reverse it.
What are you saying about yourself in the first seven seconds you meet someone? Fashion can instantaneously communicate intelligence, sincerity, trust, success, creativity, empowerment and values. What you wear can enhance your value in the workplace or detract from it. Ever wonder why some people feel more approachable than others? Why someone else closes more business transactions than you? Why you were passed over for that last promotion? It’s not always hard work that brings the success you desire.
Take a good look in the mirror. Does your reflection give you a feeling of trust and confidence? If you met someone for the first time looking like you do right now, would you hire, befriend or ignore them? Would you trust them with your time and money?
Find success in seven seconds. It’s that simple.
Fashion Boosts Creativity
If you are feeling stuck, have an insurmountable problem, or are just plain bored, fashion can help you feel creative and smart. Look in your closet and find the one dress that makes you feel invincible. Find a color that exudes confidence. Apply the shade of lipstick that says, “I know what I am talking about!” Pick out a pair of shoes that will move you forward past any self-doubt. Create a fashion look that shows, “I know who I am and what I want.” If you can’t find anything in your closet, then follow this adage: When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping! That will get your juices flowing.
Fashion Makes You Feel Good
Fashion can give you the boldness to never give up. Dress your best and you can feel unstoppable. Woody Allen said 80 percent of success is showing up. Being fashionable gives you the courage to show up; it empowers inspiration. Shopping for your favorite fashions releases endorphins. When you feel good, you look good. Isn’t that what it’s all about?
Style via Fashion Accentuates Success
Fashion is linked to fame, money and success. How you carry yourself, what style you follow or what fashion brands you choose tells a lot about you. A simple black dress can close a multimillion-dollar deal. The perfect silhouette can make him fall in love. Yoga pants and a new pair of running shoes can encourage well-being. Happiness can be found in a faded pair of denim jeans. Fashion creates a lifestyle. It reflects what success means to you. A shopping spree may be all you need.
Fashion Leads to Self-actualization
Fashion is an adventure. It is the pathway for expansion. It creates growth and purpose. People who realize self-actualization make their own decisions. They change their mind, make mistakes, create new choices and follow their bliss.
