Flightlinez and the American Heart Association are teaming up to help fight the No. 1 killer of women, heart disease.

Proceeds benefit American Heart Association and Go Red for Woman.

The story featured a group of hairdressers that wanted to help children who can’t afford even the most basic of PERSONAL necessities, including haircuts and shampoo.

The story went on to say that Nevada’s SNAP program, or food stamp program, does not cover the costs for these items. With that in mind, the news producer, Dan Landson, saw a need to help, enlisted the support of some friends and now we are seeking your support.

The Clark County School District created the “Sparkle and Shine” campaign to provide for the collection of personal hygiene items and the distribution to students through school nurses and Title I schools (low-income schools).

The program is seeking contributions of travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, mouthwash, lotions, body wash, bar soap, or cash donations.

Contributions of any size are welcomed and appreciated. Currently, there are two drop-off locations, with more on the way. See below to drop off any product donations. All cash contributions should be in the form of a check, payable and mailing information is below.

The one day event, will afford families with children 18 months to six years, a sneak-peak
at a mini-version of Camp Kidville. New to Las Vegas, Camp Kidville will run May 7th
through the week of August 20th, and allows campers and their counselors to visit
different classrooms where specialists lead them through a variety of activities including
gym, arts and crafts, music, and hands-on exploration, all in an indoor, safe, clean and
air conditioned space. Campers can sign up in two week increments, allowing for
flexibility in summer vacation and travel schedules.

Camp for Cause activities will be broken down by age groups (see times below): 18-36
months and three to six years

The suggested donation for participation in Camp for a Cause is $10 per family. All
donations will benefit JDRF directly, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for type
1 diabetes and its complications through the support of research. JDRF is the worldwide
leader for research to cure type 1 diabetes.

Summer Camps are back at Lied Discovery Children’s Museum!

Registration is now open for Summer Camps at Lied Discovery Children’s Museum! Southern Nevada’s only children’s museum has expanded its summer programming offerings again in 2012 to include an exciting variety of interactive weekly Summer Camps for local families. Campers will investigate, invent, experiment, interpret, strategize, discover and share what they’ve learned, but most importantly, they’ll have fun using their minds and engaging with others.

Weekly camps sessions begin the week of June 11 and run through the week of August 13. Morning and afternoon sessions are available, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for children ages 6-9 and 10-12. A wide variety of camp themes are available, including Living and Working in Space, Science Detective, Amazing Animals, Mystery of Puppetry, Grossology and many more.

Camp prices are $125 per weekly camp session for museum members and $140 per weekly camp session for non-members. Lunch care also is available. Neiman Marcus at the Fashion Show Mall hosts a night of beauty and fashion with “Smile in Style” fundraising event Thursday, Feb. 23 from 5-7 p.m. The event will include a designer beauty basket raffle to benefit the Smiles for Survivors Foundation (Smiles), a local non-profit organization whose mission is to support breast cancer patients and survivors by raising awareness of the potential oral side effects of cancer treatment and by providing preventative and restorative dental treatment for breast cancer patients and survivors through a network of dentists and dental specialists.

Smile in Style will start with beauty makeovers and cocktails at 5 p.m., followed by a 2012 spring trends fashion presentation at 6 p.m. followed by the designer beauty basket raffle at 7 p.m. Raffle tickets are $10 per ticket or $100 for 12 tickets. A grand prize basket will also be raffled for $25 per ticket and will include a designer handbag and a $250 gift card to Neiman Marcus. There is no cover charge for the event. About Smiles for Survivors
Smiles for Survivors™ is a registered 501(c)3 foundation, whose mission is to support breast cancer patients and survivors. The organization works with dentists and dental specialists to provide preventative and restorative dental treatment, to educate cancer patients about potential oral side effects of chemotherapy, and to raise awareness in our community about the importance of nutrition and maintaining good oral health before, during, and after cancer treatments. Through a vetting process, Smiles for Survivors Foundation selects qualified breast cancer patients and survivors to participate in the Make Her Smile program, which provides necessary dental procedures to improve oral health. Mark this Leap Year by telling diabetes to “take a flying leap!”

This leap year, support JDRF, an organization that grows by leaps and bounds every day in their search to find a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D).
