Located an hour north of Las Vegas, Mesquite, Nevada is the perfect destination for a relaxing romantic weekend or a quick girlfriend getaway.
Less than 300 miles from Las Vegas is the picturesque escape of Sedona, Arizona. Famous for its beautiful red rock formations, film festivals, New Age shops and mystical vortex locations, this town has a population of only 10,000, but plays host to over 6 million tourists every year.
As a young woman, I defined myself with my perception of femininity. My hair, my clothing, my Barbie dolls, my girlfriends, and eventually my makeup all helped to create my outer appearance of who I thought I “should be.”

While the bright lights, glitz and glamour of Las Vegas attracts over 42 million visitors a year, there is more to Southern Nevada and surrounding areas. Historic highways and rural towns offer a chance to explore the southwest.
For me, horses and wine are my passions. So imagine how excited I was to go to a wine tasting by horse and carriage.
Surrounded by desert landscape and history, roads to and from Las Vegas are also pathways to history and nature enclaves. Whether a registered historic place or centuries-old farm, these roadside attractions will add to the spirit of the trip as well as give a different perspective of the southwest.
The fourth annual Sabor de Baja, an all-white-attire affair, was recently held in the gardens of the Rosarito Beach Hotel & Resort. Hundreds of people attended the event, at which 20 of Baja’s best chefs prepared delectable dishes paired with Baja wines and artisanal beer producers.
