It will be party time for Oscar Night in Las Vegas
The Academy Awards is the second biggest event of the year (after the Big Game) and Oscar Night Las Vegas will host celebrities and their fans during Oscar Night Las Vegas Feb. 24-26.
Officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the weekend destination event will include fashion shows, receptions, Oscar Night red carpet arrivals, theater viewing parties for the live telecast and Oscar Night after party.
Proceeds will benefit Variety, The Children’s Charity of Southern Nevada, dedicated to providing services for children with special needs.
Clinton Billups, executive producer of Oscar Night Las Vegas, made the announcement to the media in Johnny Brenden’s private suite at the Brenden Theatres located at the Palms Casino Resort.
According to Billups, for the past 19 years the Academy has sponsored Oscar Night America which is a fund raising program for charities which will include 49 states in 2012. The Academy works with charities such as Variety and 100 percent of the money raised stays with the charity in that community.
“Last spring (now former) Mayor Oscar Goodman approached me and wanted to ask me a question,” Billups said. “His question was, ‘The Super Bowl gets about 100,000 people to the game. Las Vegas gets about 275,000 people to come here. The Super Bowl is the No. 1 television event in the country. Why can’t we get the people who are fans of the No. 2 television event to come to Las Vegas for Academy Awards weekend?’ I was quick to point out to the mayor that although we have to give deference to the Super Bowl and viewership here in the United States might make it No. 2 but around the world on Feb. 26, 225 countries and 1 billion people will tune in to watch the Oscars and Las Vegas is the perfect place to celebrate.”
As one of the top destinations both domestically and internationally, Las Vegas will host one of the biggest parties for Academy Award Weekend.
The first celebrity announced to be part of Oscar Night Las Vegas will be Shirley Jones, winner of the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for “Elmer Gantry.” Also known as the mom in the television series, “The Partridge Family,” Jones and her husband, Marty Ingels, will be the guests of honor at the reception hosted by Variety on Feb. 25 in the Fantasy Suites at the Palms.
Other events throughout the weekend include:
“Red Carpet Ready” fashion shows to be held at the Fashion Show Mall Feb. 24 and Feb. 26 from noon to 6 p.m.
Oscar Night Las Vegas Red Carpet arrivals by show business celebrities at the Palms Casino Resort Feb. 26.
Theater viewing parties for the live telecast in the Palms Casino with a VIP party in the Celebrity Theater hosted by Kevin Burke, star of “Defending the Caveman” and “Fitz of Laugher.”
Oscar Night Las Vegas After-Party to be held at The Playboy Club at the Palms.
