Name: Douglas P. Sanchez, DMD
Hometown: Southern Oregon and Southern California
Occupation: General Dentist
Dr. Doug Sanchez was born in Germany but raised in Southern Oregon and Southern California. Growing up in Oregon he developed his love for the outdoors. After high school, Dr. Sanchez followed his family’s tradition and once worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for the United States Marine Corps and then as a railroad machinist. After years working in machinery, he changed tracks to pursue a more fulfilling career. While working during the day, he attended dental school at night before enrolling full-time at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Dr. Sanchez began his dual major in biology and business at colleges in California and Utah, before acceptance into UNLV for his Doctor of Dental Medicine. He currently pursues post-graduate studies on dental implants, cosmetic dentistry and orthodontics through nationwide continuing education. He broadens his repertoire to “be able to give the patient what they want without the limitations of a narrow focus.”
After dental school, Dr. Sanchez worked as an associate with a dentist in Kingman, Ariz. who mentored him and fueled his interest in dental implants. He went on to become a managing dentist for a large dental corporation. He later decided to exit the corporate world and enter private practice. He stated, “I felt that having my own practice would give me the flexibility needed to never miss a second of my daughter’s life.”
In 2009, Dr. Sanchez opened Infinity Dental in Las Vegas. His work in dentistry helps patients overcome disabilities for lasting, life altering results: “We can take a patient who was previously unable to function normally and help them to chew and enjoy meals the way the rest of the world does. We take for granted how lucky we are to be able to go to a dinner or party and not have to worry about our teeth coming out. This has a major social impact on patients.”
The philosophy of his practice is “the possibilities are endless” because treatments to get patients on the right track when it comes to their dental health are viable with today’s technology. He stated that recent advances have made it feasible for implants to be integrated into the body, thus improving the overall quality of life for his patients. Additionally, Infinity Dental will soon begin using laser procedures capable of minimizing recovery time.
As a UNLV alum, Dr. Sanchez finds it rewarding to give back to the community. The dentist teaches weekly at the School of Dental Medicine and enjoys being a mentor to new dentists.
Infinity Dental volunteers annually with Give Kids a Smile, hosted at UNLV. Dr. Sanchez’s admiration for the troops motivates his work with Iraq Star Foundation, an organization aiding wounded veterans. He also helps ensure military officers are service-ready and then normalized upon their return. Additionally, the practice volunteers services for Celebrate Recovery, a program sponsored by the Central Christian Church.
After a long day at work, Dr. Sanchez can always count on his 9-year-old daughter Emily to put a smile on his face. He cherishes the time spent together with his family going to the lake, wakeboarding, snowboarding, riding choppers and taking annual trips to Laughlin River Run.
