Companies selling essential oils have a rivalry that could be compared to France and Italy if you watch international soccer, Kelly Osbourne and Christina Aguilera if you enjoy gossip or Armani and Dolce and Gabbana if you have a passion for men’s quilted pants.

The key is to do your research and find the company that’s best for you. Once you are satisfied with your research and you settle in on a particular company, you will find that there is an essential oil for everything. There are antimicrobial and antibacterial essential oils, not to mention ones that can alleviate colds and flus, migraines, your pet’s anxiety and everything in between. And if you are scared to ingest them, you can still enjoy the benefits through diffusion or topical application.

The reason that I’m such an advocate is that as we become more aware of the dangers of prescription medication and the weakening of antibiotics, many people are turning to homeopathy for their ailments. With oils you get a good combination: safe remedies and beauty benefits. For example sesame oil is often used in hair and skin treatments, tea tree oil is used in hair and nail treatments and certain oils are even touted to slow aging and the progression of cancer. And if you are visiting our wonderful city that never sleeps, you might benefit from an introduction to clove oil, which helps to alleviate hangovers.

Of course as with any product there are dangers of misuse and overuse, so the importance of research cannot be overstated; likewise do not undervalue the benefits of taking control of our own, our pet’s or our family’s health. So the next time one of your friends invites you to an essential oil party, or when they ask you to smell their hair, you might want to consider saying yes.
